1) What’s the difference between life coaching and counselling?

The main focus in counselling is on a person’s past and helping them heal emotional pain or conflict, often resulting from a trauma. Progress is usually slow and can be painful. Life coaching focuses on the present in order to help a person create strategies that will enable them to achieve specific personal or work goals in the future. A responsible coach will look at the past with a client when they come up against limiting beliefs that stop them from moving forward. They will support the client in finding constructive ways of overcoming these limitations. Progress is usually fast and enjoyable.

2) Do I need to have a specific goal or issue to work on before the coaching sessions?

People come to me to be coached because there is something they want to change in their life. Some people are clear about what needs to change but many are not. I will work with you to help you clarify what you want in your life and the steps you will need to take to move forward.

3) How do you work with clients?

As my clients live all over the world as well as in the UK, most people prefer to be coached by phone or by using Skype. Face to face coaching is possible by arrangement, particularly in the Bristol area. Sessions last for an hour. Before our first session, I will send you a pre-coaching questionnaire to complete and return so that I have some background details which will inform our first session. You will also receive a coaching agreement which you will sign and return before coaching begins. We will agree a mutually convenient time for you to call me.

4) How much will it cost to be coached by you?

My fee for individual coaching is £60 per hour, payable in advance.

5) How many coaching sessions will I need?

Coaching is not a quick-fix but a process that ensures you take action to achieve specific goals. Each person has different requirements but ideally you would have at least fortnightly sessions for a minimum of three months. Fewer sessions are fine if you would simply like to get a feel for how you would benefit from coaching.

6) When would I be coached and how often?

I have some evening and weekend appointment as well as regular weekday slots. I will do my best to fit in with your work and personal schedules. As for frequency, I recommend that your coaching sessions are one to three weeks apart so that you have enough time to move forward with the actions you have agreed to take whilst ensuring that you don’t lose momentum.

7) Is coaching appropriate for everyone and am I ready to be coached?

I believe that everyone can benefit from coaching. It can literally turn your life around! You will be ready for coaching if you are able to commit time, energy and efforts to the sessions as well as taking the actions you agree to.
